WHO WE ARE
Established in Bali in 1975, John Hardy is dedicated to the creation of ultimate beauty through artisan handcrafted jewelry. Each of John Hardy’s distinctive collections conveys evocative symbolism and honors the transmission of creative energy from the artist to the wearer. Since inception, the company has been deeply rooted in the essential values of community, artisanship, and sustainability.
WHAT WE STAND FOR
The company was originally founded on an authentic collective with the local artisans, and, in turn, is deeply rooted in respect for partnership and community. ORGANIC LONG TABLE LUNCH: A dedication to the sharing of daily gatherings and organic meals at the Ubud artisan workshop and showroom. JOBS FOR LIFE PROGRAM: Continued support of vocational training and advocacy for Balinese orphans.
Continuing the legacy, our company employs local artisans and supports our community. Preservation of Craft: We preserve the surrounding culture for future generations by using and developing traditional craftsmanship in the creation of our jewelry.
John Hardy is dedicated to sustainable luxury business practices. We strive to use 100% reclaimed Silver and Gold in the creation of our jewelry. Our Diamonds are sourced strictly following the United Nations resolution and the Kimberley Process. Our Gemstones and other Natural Materials are sourced following John Hardy’s Ethical Sourcing Code of Conduct.
“Wear Bamboo, Plant Bamboo”
We are committed to preserving the natural beauty of Bali. For every purchase from the Bamboo Collection, we plant a number of seedlings in Indonesia to offset our carbon footprint.
In addition, we provide the local communities with training on the benefits of growing bamboo and correct bamboo forestry. John Hardy has also partnered with nonprofit 1,000 Bamboo Villages to further ensure that these communities are able to build a sustainable, profitable future through bamboo cultivation and harvesting.
Since 2007, over one million seedlings have been planted as a result of sales from the Bamboo Collection, enough to cover New York City’s Central Park six times over. You’ll find the number of seedlings planted on your behalf engraved on the inside of each piece, as a heartening reminder of your beneficial impact. Simply put: when you wear Bamboo, you plant bamboo.
What We Craft
Every piece of powerful dramatic and inspiring John Hardy jewelry tells a story - inside and out - starting with the designers and artisans. The unique design sensibility flows directly from the curves of nature, and the forms of flora and fauna. It can take between three and 10 months to complete a piece, as everything is done by hand; by people and never machines. The skills of the artisans have been handed down from generation to generation; they are passionate about their work, their environment, history, tradition and culture.
The Creative Process Includes Eight Steps:
